"My paintings are the marriage of my sense of connection to nature and the simple sensory joy of working in the realm of color, shape, texture, value and composition.
I am currently working with the connundrum of an insistent voice that says, "Paint the moment!" Yet the moments won't hold still long enough to be painted. Still, the instruction alone is life-enhancing, seeing each moment with painterly eyes.
The finished painting is in one sense just a byproduct of the experience of creation. However, for the viewer a painting can be a door to awakening in the moment, as when I stood in tears in the National Gallery in front of the powerful brush strokes of Van Gogh.
But the artist can't manufacture that experience for the viewer. The artist can only paint as fully engaged and as authentically as possible."
